Pre-Trip Checklist

What to bring

Bring your lunch, your valid fishing license and salmon tag, sunscreen, camera, waterproof shoes or boots, and good rain gear (tops and bottoms). If you are fishing with us on the Columbia, you will need to have a Columbia River Endorsement added to your license. In addition, starting in 2026, an Ocean Endorsement will be required to be added to your license for anything other than salmon fishing. Licenses can be obtained online and placed on your phone anytime before your trip. When purchasing your license, you may either purchase a paper license in store (Bi-Mart, Fred Meyer, Englund Marine, etc.), or you may purchase online at The ODFW Website, then you must download the myODFW app on a mobile device through the app store. You will then be asked to login with your ODFW account to sync your purchase. Please complete this before you board the boat.

Safety

All safety gear will be provided for your trip. Coast guard-approved life jackets will be supplied, and are required to be worn at all times on the boat.

Our boats are equipped with all Coast Guard-required safety equipment. In addition, our ocean boat is equipped with radar, a 6-person life raft, and an EPIRB in a ditch bag.

A safety briefing will be provided before we leave shore every morning. It is expected that clients listen to this briefing, take note of where and how safety equipment operates, and ask questions if needed.

When the vessel is underway, it is expected that all passengers remain seated.

Newport Trips

If we are fishing out of Newport, please see the attached map on where to park and where to find the boat.

Seasickness

If we are fishing in the Ocean, you may want to take precautions for seasickness.  The best preparation is to make sure you are hydrated, avoid alcohol the day before, and get plenty of sleep.  The following are suggestions for meds that can help.  Follow directions for when to take it and/or check with your doc.

  1. BEST: Scopolamine, which is a prescription from your doctor
  2. Over the Counter: Bonine (meclizine hydrochloride)
  3. Ginger or peppermint oils or gummys
  4. Avoid Dramamine as it will make you very sleepy

Tricks for when we are out at sea:

  1. Do not stare at your screen or look down
  2. If you are feeling poor, do not go inside the cabin.  Go out on the deck, get some fresh air, and look at the horizon
  3. Avoid an empty stomach, but eat bland foods in the morning and snack on salty crackers or chips.  Nothing spicy or greasy
  4. Drink lots of water

Smoking, Alcohol, and Drugs

Smoking, vaping, and drugs (including marijuana) are ABSOLUTELY NOT permitted on board any of our vessels. Use of alcohol is discouraged, but if used, it is expected that the passengers maintain complete sobriety, including the ability to help themselves in an emergency situation. Obnoxious, rude, or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated and will result in those passengers being returned to the dock immediately.
